A woman believes she was the target of an attempted scam after stopping her car to help a person lying face down in an Abbey Wood road.

The woman, who did not want to be named, posted a video of the incident on YouTube.

On Monday, (April 16) the woman was in the passenger seat of a car, which was driving along New Road in Abbey Wood, when somebody lying in the middle of the road came into view.

The woman, from Belvedere, told News Shopper: “We thought something was wrong. We approached to see if she was ok.

“She lifted her head and started to say something that nobody could understand. I locked the doors because she looked at me very strangely.

“She then tried to open the back door, which you can’t see on the video.”

The video has been shared on Facebook over 700 times.

The passenger in the car believes it was a scam and she contacted police afterwards.

She added: “There could have been someone waiting somewhere with a baseball bat. You just don’t know.

“Someone in the comments said they would have driven over her – that was a bit harsh. People are frightened because nobody knows what she was up to.”

A police spokesman told News Shopper they would not be investigating the incident.

The spokesman added: “It is very unlikely that there would be enough evidence to support a criminal investigation or be recorded as a crime.”
