More than a dozen restaurants and cafes around the Bexley borough have been told their hygiene needs urgent or major improvement.

The details, correct as of March 24, have all been published on the government’s Food Standards Agency website.

Click through our gallery to have a look at the restaurants and cafes hygiene inspectors gave a score of one out of five - meaning major improvement is necessary.

Images used are from the FSA website or Google Street View.

The ratings have been given to businesses to reflect the standards of food hygiene found when they were inspected by food safety officers from Bexley Council over the past few months.

Inspectors check the following three elements:

1. How hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored

2. The condition of the structure of the buildings – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities

3. How the business manages what it does to make sure food is safe and so that the officer can be confident standards will be maintained in the future

RESPONSES FROM BUSINESSES

All the businesses featured in this article have been inspected within the past year. We have omitted any that have been re-inspected and are due to have a new score published.

As all the details are correct at the time of publishing, we will not amend or remove anything. However, we will update this page with any responses from the business owners explaining why they got a low score and what they’ve done to fix the problems.

If you are the owner or manager of one of the food outlets you can submit your comments here.
