The council, has rolled out a suite of new environmentally friendly, ‘glutton’ mechanised street cleansing machines.
As part of a new approach to street cleaning, seven ‘bright orange’ machines will be located in Barnet’s town centres, with an additional machine targeting hotspot areas across Barnet.
The machines which are completely electric-powered, are able to vacuum all types of waste and will be operating in town centres from 11am-7pm.
Councillor Dean Cohen, chairman of Barnet Council’s environment committee, said: “Our residents expect our streets to be cleansed and maintained to excellent standards and this new equipment will help us achieve this.
“The orange glutton machines will make it quicker for our teams to clean large areas, with the street vacuums able to clear smaller pieces of litter much better.
The new machinery is part of the council’s £600,000 investment into new equipment, including mechanical sweepers, to sweep the streets.
