Police have caught numerous businesses red handed selling lethal weapons and alcohol to underage customers.
Barnet police carried out a deployment for ‘Operation Sceptre’ last night, they were joined by police cadets as they sought to catch shops selling age restricted goods in Finchley.
The operation also involved Barnet Police Licensing, Trading Standards, and Neighbourhood Policing Teams.
Four shops in Finchley failed to ask for ID and allowed the sale of knives and alcohol to cadets posing as customers.
The staff selling the age restricted items will be visiting Colindale Police Station for interviews.
The shops will also be provided with guidance and support to put measures in place to prevent further illegal sales to children.
Police Sergeant Jane Tuffin said: “This operation is a regular deployment across the borough, aiming at ensuring shop keepers and their staff understand their role in reducing violence.”
“It takes a community to keep our young people safe. To sell a knife to a young person is just one part of the chain that leads to serious injury and in some cases death.”
“Every person involved in that chain needs to take responsibility for their contribution.”
“If businesses across the borough want any help and support with the management of their age restricted goods, please contact Barnet Policing Licensing by dialling 101.”
