A police officer left with life changing injuries after the Westminster attack one year ago has appeared on ITV’s This Morning.

PC Kris Aves, 35, who lives in Barnet, sustained a series of injuries including broken legs, an elbow injury and and numerous head injuries when he was mowed down by a speeding car in a terror attack on Westminster, March 22 2017.

The father-of-two had been spending months recovering at the Stoke Mandeville hospital in Aylesbury until returning home.

Mr Aves told presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: “I have Titanium rods supporting my legs, my sternum and my shoulder were injured, I also have scars on my head.”

“I suffered a dislocation to my spine as well”

“I can walk 10 steps with my left leg but my right leg will just drag, my physiotherapist has to pull my leg forward.”

He has since returned home to find his home fully refurbished and developed by DIY SOS.

Mr Aves said: “I was allowed weekend leave when I was recovering, but I couldn’t get through my house, I couldn’t even go to the garden, I had to stay in hotels just to spend time with my Kids.”

Visibly moved when he saw the remodelled house he said: “I think I said ‘oh my god’ fifty times.”

Speaking of the attack Mr Aves said: “The last memory I have is leaving Scotland Yard. We had just left an award ceremony for the Brexit March and were going to Lambeth.”

He was asked if he ever thinks of Khaled Masood, the man who conducted the terror attack claiming five lives.

Mr Aves said: “I only think of the people who passed away, five people, one of them being what we call our family, the police officer Keith Palmer.”
