A deaf student has designed a new showpiece for a major coffee chain after they advertised for a local artist on social media.

Harrow College student, Bartosz Cichowski, 21, answered the Facebook call from the Starbucks coffee shop in Watford to create a new design for their notice board.

The advert headline read ‘Looking for Local Artist to Design a Space in Starbucks’.

Following a meeting with shop manager, Luke Stoffberg, who was ‘very impressed’ by Bartosz, the Interior and Product Design student was commissioned for the job.

Bartosz returned days later with communicator, Debbie Jerom, and with sketches of his design. He spent the day creating the piece using chalk-paint and the finished design was revealed to the Starbucks team.

Starbuck manager, Luke Stoffberg, said: “It rivals the professional artworks that I have seen in the American Starbucks shops. I wish it could be laminated so it lasts forever.”

Speaking at Harrow College today, Bartosz said: “I really enjoyed the opportunity to do this work for Starbucks as many people will see my name on it.

“Art is my main talent and I’m working with staff at the college to decide which creative industry I can aim for.”
