Greenwich might have missed out on winning Borough of Culture, but that won’t stop plans to enrich the area further.

Street Feast has opened in Woolwich, Royal Greenwich Festivals 2018 is announcing its programme soon, and the Woolwich Creative District will open next year.

The linking up of artists and community groups – Greenwich Culture Forum – will continue to receive support from the council and other projects will still get the green light.

Councillor Denise Hyland, leader of the royal borough of Greenwich, said: "We are rightly proud of Royal Greenwich's cultural heritage as a major gateway to London where diversity and history uniquely intersect in a spirit of generosity and welcome. I can't wait to see some of the ideas in our bid brought to life.

"I'm excited about how the public consultation and workshops we held in the run up to our bid has started a conversation about how cultural activity in the Borough can contribute towards our key priorities of tackling poverty, decreasing socio-economic inequality and improving well-being.”

The original bid was developed with community input, from 49 Borough-wide organisations plus 100 individuals, including 72 young people.

The winning borough was Waltham Forest and Brent, which was announced by The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, on February 27.
