A friends’ group which hopes to revitalise a children’s play area was handed a grant worth £500 in support of its campaign to improve their park.

The Pinner Association donated the money to the Friends of Pinner Village Gardens to help with its good work in the area.

The friends’ group, which has been working tirelessly over the past year to transform the park, is seeking to raise enough money to install new equipment in the playground.

It is hoped that it will have collected around £11,000 by the end of April which should allow for the equipment to be replaced in stages.

Much of this funding has come from the donations of organisations like the Pinner Association.

It has also held a number of events to raise money for its various projects and encourage as many people as possible to get involved.

Antonia Savvides, who is a member of the group, said: “The playground area has been neglected for a number of years and the result is a very run down and featureless facility in desperate need of improvement.”

She explained how grants such as this, as well as the fundraising drives, will “allow the group to pay for essential improvements.”

This project follows on from a special bluebell planting event, which saw members join young people from across Harrow and put 2,000 bulbs in the park. They are expected to bloom in the coming months.

A membership drive last year saw the group expand to more than one hundred members, and it hopes to attract even more people as it continues to work and grow.
