An investigation has been launched into the death of a man who crashed into parked cars following a police pursuit.

Relando Tekle-Giorgies, 24, hit the cars in Kenton Road, Harrow, at about 1am on December 29 having failed to stop for police.

Officers had decided to end their pursuit when they caught up with the damaged black Peugeot 207.

First aid was administered to Mr Tekle-Giorgies but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) were called, where they carried out the post-incident procedure.

Regional director for London, Jonathan Green, explained how the IOPC is appealing for any information relating to the crash.

He said: “This is a tragic incident where a young man has lost his life and my thoughts are with his family and friends and all those affected.

“The investigation is progressing but I would ask that anyone who saw any part of the incident should contact us as soon as possible to assist in our investigation.”

Investigators have collected CCTV footage, body-worn video from the officers and in-vehicle data from the police car involved in the chase.

They have also received a number of witness accounts, including from the officers involved.

In the hope of compiling further information, witness appeal boards have been put up in the area.
