A family-run restaurant on Orpington High Street has announced its closure after over five years in business because of "unforeseen circumstances".

Bel's Diner first opened in October 2012.

They said in a statement (January 10): "It is with great regret that Bel’s Diner will be closing for business this evening due to unforeseen circumstances.

"We would like to thank all our loyal customers which have been amazing people over the years that have supported us and have become very good friends too.

"On behalf of Sal and his staff we wish you all the very best."

Customers of Bel's Diner took to Facebook to express their sadness in response to the closure.

One person wrote: "So sorry to hear that you are closing. We have had some wonderful meals at the Diner, which we will always remember."

Another said: "Best place to eat in Orpington will be sad to not have our special occasion meals in there anymore.

"Thanks Sal and all staff for making every visit warm and welcoming."

Another comment read: "Incredibly sad to hear this! My partner and I have recently moved out of Orpington but was looking forward to a breakfast/visit at one of our favourite places in Orpington as we were back for the weekend."
