A man who went missing on New Year’s Eve when out with his friends at The O2 in Greenwich has been found dead in Canary Wharf after falling 50 feet from a skyscraper construction site.

Sam Clarke was found in Bank Street by emergency services shortly before 9am yesterday (January 2).

The night before Sam’s friend Jack Armstrong appealed on social media to help find his pal who hadn’t been seen since January 31.

Mr Armstrong wrote: “Could everyone please help, my friend Sam Clarke got separated from us when we went out on New Year’s Eve and has not home returned since. He was last seen at Indigo at the O2.”

Later, after receiving the tragic news of what happened to him, Mr Armstrong updated the post, writing: “I would like to thank everyone for the messages of support and shares.

“Unfortunately it’s bad news, as Sam passed away (he was the body found at Canary Wharf this morning). We all his friends and all family are absolutely distraught, R.I.P Sam, God bless.”

The Met Police confirmed the body of a man was found in a “deep trench” and that the death was being treated as “unexplained”.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said the incident occurred at the site of a building under construction, adding: "A man had fallen approximately 50 feet."

An ambulance crew attended along with a hazardous area response team, London Ambulance Service (LAS) said.

"Sadly, the patient was dead at the scene," an LAS spokesman added.
