Young people in Sutton who are striving to turn their lives around were recognised at an awards ceremony last week.

The Sutton Youth Offending Team hosted its second ever annual awards at The Quad in Green Wrythe Lane on Wednesday, December 13.

Brian Duffus, who is a co-ordinator for YouThink – a prevention group that works with young people at risk of offending – oversaw the awards.

He told Sutton Guardian: “It was amazing. I am really pleased. Everyone that came seemed to really enjoy it. There were a lot of proud parents and young people.

“We host the awards to celebrate and raise awareness of the positive work young people have achieved in the last 12 months.

“These young people in Sutton have a stigma attached and it is nice for them to receive praise.”

Mr Duffus thanked all the staff, volunteers and the Mayor of Sutton, councillor Jean Crossby for making it a special night for all involved.
