MICHAEL Sobell Hospice in Northwood has been chosen to receive a grant of £15,000 from the Masonic Charitable Foundation.

It was one of three charities to receive an award in the Middlesex area.

John Briggs, of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Middlesex, visited the hospice to present the cheque and had a tour as well as being introduced to staff and the fund-raising team.

The masons have always been generous to the hospice, and in the past has helped to fund a grant for a special MOTOmed, which helps patients strengthen their muscles.

One of the hospice patients could even walk his dog again after using it!

Contributions from freemasons to hospices have exceeded £12m in England and Wales since 1984.

Michael Sobell has been providing specialist palliative care for local people and their families for more than 40 years.
