A mystery person is leaving little knitted angels around New Addington and it is getting everyone in the Christmas spirit.

They started popping up around town early this week and hearts were immediately warmed by the gesture.

Sharon Monk found one of the angels hanging on the gates at Fairchildes Primary School.

"It’s so lovely when you see that children have found them," she said.

"A random act of kindness that is making a lot of people happy today."

It's not just the angels themselves that are making people smile.

With every one found, there is a note attached, each with a different, positive message.

'From me to you, please take me home' and 'spread some kindness' were just some of the messages attached to the angels that Lyn Knight found.

"Such a lovely thing to do to cheer everyone up," Mrs Knight said.

"My three granddaughters each got one and they also picked one up their baby cousin.

"New Addington has an amazing community and the girls have not stopped talking about their magical find."

But does anybody know who might be leaving them around town?

Well as some have pointed out, not knowing is all part of the magic.

Gina Whiffen was another who was lucky enough to find an angel and summed things up perfectly.

"Whether young or old, it certainly is a lovely thing to do to cheers people up."

Have you found one of these angels lying about?
