A Croydon restaurant has been crowned the best takeaway in south London for the second time in three years.

Eastern Cuisine, based in Gypsy Hill, was named as winners at the British Takeaway Awards on November 27 at The Savoy in London.

Comedian John Bishop presented the awards with other celebrities like Rachel Riley and Kelly Brook being in attendance.

A spokesman from Eastern Cuisine told Croydon Guardian: “It was really good. We have been in Gypsy Hill since 2011 so it is a big achievement to win those awards.

“Last year we won the best chef in south London too.

“The quality of the food and the service are two key things that we strive for our business. It is a high competition market out there and the food speaks for itself.

“We want to thank all of our customers for their support and loyalty.”

Their signature dish is garlic chicken gujarat, which is tandoori chicken stripped off the bone and is slow cooked for six hours and marinated in herbs and spices.

Managing Director for Just Eat, Graham Corfield, commented: "It's only right that we thank the heroes of our high streets – our local takeaway restaurant owners, chefs and delivery drivers - as well as recognise the industry's contribution to local communities and commitment to serving great food.”

Eastern Cuisine, who won £1,000 in prize money, was also praised for their work for its support of the Croydon community.
