A Sutton carer wants to go the extra mile to help his patients with dementia by raising funds for a mini-bus.

Richard Dance, 22, has worked for Wellesley Lodge care home on Worcester Road for four years.

He told Sutton Guardian: “Some of our residents are always wanting to go out. There is one lady here with no family.

“Finding the time to care for our residents and take them out is really hard.

“If we had a mini-bus we could take a whole bunch of residents out and it would then be a lot easier for the carers back at the home to manage.

“It would help our carers but this is mainly for patients so we can get them out in the community more instead of them being stuck inside all the time.”

The care home has 22 bedrooms with 19 currently taken up. Two rooms are left for families who can bring relatives in for a brief stay.

Richard has started a GoFundMe page for the mini-van which can be found here.

He added that the reaction of the residents to the potential new mini-bus has been positive.

Trips to Morden Halll Park, Lavender Hill, cafe visits and bus rides are some ideas Richard is considering.
