An "epic" night of musical entertainment will take place in Sutton this month.

Sutton Symphony Orchestra will perform its "fantastique" winter concert at St Andrew's URC Northey Avenue on Saturday, November 25.

"To catch this live will be amazing," commented conductor Philip Aslangul.

"The orchestra has been working hard since the summer break and it would be great to play to a full house at St Andrew's. This programme really does have something for everyone."

Brahms Academic Festival Overture starts the proceedings and represents a mélange of traditional student drinking songs.

Guest principal and soloist Niall Trainor will also perform Dvorak's divine cello concerto.

The second half of the programme is Berlioz's five movement Symphonie Fantastique which highlights themes like hope, desire, love, death, misery and passion.

Horn player, Caroline Auty, told Sutton Guardian: "As an amateur musician you don't get the opportunity to play this kind of stuff very often. It's a real privilege to tackle such an epic work."

Frances Burton, cellist and chair of the orchestra, said: "The Berlioz is an epic piece needing a huge orchestra including bells, two harps, two sets of timpani and extra brass. It's definitely one not to miss."

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are available here.
