A new KFC takeaway restaurant has been proposed for a vacant building in Cheam Village.

The old HSBC bank located at 27-29 The Broadway in Cheam is the site for the plans.

Customers of the southern fried chicken chain will have 10 seats to choose from with 12 full-time jobs and 13 part-time jobs being created if plans are approved.

However, local councillor Mary Burstow said she was outraged by the plans.

She told Sutton Guardian: "It will attract a great deal of litter and it is in the heart of a conservation area.

"It is close to Cheam Park and people will buy takeaway, go to the park and leave chicken bones. There are lots of dogs in the park and if they eat chicken bones they will choke and be killed.

"It is totally inappropriate for that location."

She added that a new KFC would create "more parking problems" and it could block the entrance to a nearby doctor's surgery.

The closing date to submit feedback to Sutton Council on the application is December 1.
