An elderly couple in Richmond were in fear for their lives after four burglars broke into their home and threatened them with screwdrivers.

Police in Richmond are investigating the aggravated burglary during which £40,000 worth of jewellery and cash was stolen.

The Met Police were called at about 9.30pm on Sunday, October 15 to the scene in Maze Road, Kew.

A spokesman said: “Four suspects wearing facial coverings and carrying screwdrivers threatened the occupants - a couple in their 70s.

“A large amount of cash and gold jewellery worth around £40,000 was stolen. The victims did not require medical treatment."

Richmond CID are appealing for information to identify the perpetrators, said to be of Irish origin, and in their 30s.

Trainee Detective Constable Paul Oulson-Jenkins said: “This was a terrifying burglary where masked men made a couple in their 70s fear for their lives, and made off with valuable jewellery of huge sentimental value.”

“We would urge anyone with information about this burglary to get in touch as soon as possible.”
