Award-winning director Robin Lefevre presents ‘Duet For One’ at Richmond Theatre on October 23 to 28 starring actor and writer Oliver Cotton and Actress Belinda Lang.

Tom Kempinski’s award-winning play is based on the life of world-renowned musician Jacqueline Du Pré and has been described as an "ultimately life-enhancing tribute to the human spirit."

Lang, who is best known for playing Bill in 2 Point 4 Children, plays Stephanie Abrahams, a talented concert violinist who seemingly has it all. But she is forced to re-evaluate her life after an unforeseen tragedy, and consults psychiatrist Dr Feldmann, played by Cotton.

Cotton is best known for his role as Cesare Borgia in the BBC series The Borgias, and more recently starred in Ripper Street.

He said of his co-star: “She’s great, she’s a wonderful actress and we get on very well. It’s quite an intense evening, so we depend on each other a lot.”

The national tour has been produced by Lee Dean and Daniel Schumann, in association with Birmingham Repertory Theatre.

Cotton, who got his first job in a Richmond Theatre working the ‘fly system,’ says he has enjoyed playing the part of psychiatrist.

He added: "In the writing he is able to put his finger on the buttons which help her move forward, even though she gets very angry and upset.

People have been very affected by the play and have been surprised at how uplifting it is, but it also takes the idea of the unconscious mind very seriously.”
