Kids at a Croydon school are delighted to have a new £20,000 zebra crossing.

The crossing was installed outside Robert Fitzroy Academy following a Croydon Council approved funding application.

Year 5 student Saryta Halls said: “It’s a busy street and there needs to be somewhere safe for the children to cross.”

The teacher's were also on board with the added safety precaution.

“I am simply thrilled to have a zebra crossing outside our school," the school's headteacher Michelle Rosemond said.

"I am convinced that this has protected lives – not only of the children and families of the Robert Fitzroy Academy but neighbouring schools and the community as a whole. This is testament to the school’s community of parents whose dedication to this project has made it a reality.”

“Anything that encourages our residents to walk more, especially during the school run, is good for their well-being and the local environment, so I’m pleased we were able to deliver this crossing for Robert Fitzroy Academy and its neighbours.”

Funding for the project came as part of an annual budget given to the council by Transport for London for local road improvements.
