A man who was punched in the face outside a Plumstead takeaway is in hospital with “life-changing” injuries.

Police were called to reports of an assault in Plumstead Road shortly before 1am on Saturday (October 14) and found the man in his 40s with serious head injuries.

London Ambulance Service took the victim to a south London hospital where he is in a stable condition but with life-changing injuries.

The victim was approached by a black man wearing a grey tracksuit with dark blue patches on the shoulders and a dark blue hood, according to police.

Police say there was a short conversation before the hooded man punched the victim in the face, causing him victim to fall to the floor unconscious.

The hooded man then left the area in the direction of Woolwich New Road.

Police have released CCTV of a man they wish to identify and have asked anyone who knows who they are to come forward.

Detective Constable Mark Day, the investigating officer from Greenwich CID, said: "This was a vicious assault which has left the victim with serious injuries.

"We are keen to speak to the man in the photograph about the incident and we would ask anyone who recognises him to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

"We would also urge anyone who witnessed the assault to contact us so we can bring the person responsible for this assault to justice."
