For most people, performing onstage with Beyoncé is a dream that will never come true.

But a Bromley dancer defied the odds and made it onto the star’s world tour.

Tajana Bunton-Williams, 26, has experienced the highs and lows of dancing in front of thousands in sold-out stadium shows. But it took her years to get there.

Tajana studied dance at the Brit School, in Croydon, for two years before getting a BA from a vocational dance college, Bird College, in Sidcup.

She started dancing in the Lion King in the West End and in around 2013 made an audition tape which she sent to rapper Iggy Azalea. Soon after she was booked on to Iggy’s tour.

On the tour, Tajana opened for Beyoncé, and at that moment she promised herself she would dance with her one day.

As her career progressed, Tajana decided to move to Los Angeles.

Then, in February 2016 she attended a Beyoncé audition. 5,000 girls went for the role. After two weeks Tajana’s agent called her. She had been chosen to dance on Beyoncé’s Formation World Tour.

Her dream may have just come true but there was plenty of work to be done.

Rehearsals started and Tajana was given just two days off in two and a half months.

Beyoncé went to every single rehearsal and Tajana was impressed by her hard work.

The star would make sure every dancer was looking perfect. She called Tajana into her room and helped her with ideas for her hair styling.

Then the rehearsals were over and the tour began.

Tajana said: “The first show we did was so overwhelming. We had never rehearsed in front of a crowd. When they roared I could feel my body shaking.

“It was so loud I could barely hear the music. Every single show was in a stadium.”

“It feels like a huge accomplishment. To have something in your mind like that, to say I’m going to dance for Beyoncé and then to do it, I felt like I had performed a magic trick.

“Now I don’t need to audition for jobs, I just get asked. I wake up to the sun every day.

“I do miss London and miss walking and shopping and my family. It’s very Hollywood out here and it can be hard to meet people and make real connections. But it is great for opportunities.”

Tajana gave some words of wisdom for anybody who wants to follow in her shoes.

She said: “Just know that it is difficult and you have to create your own opportunities.

“Go to New York or Los Angeles for that audition. Nothing is too far-fetched, but it will be hard work.”
