A brain-teasing and challenging new game which combines concepts from Cluedo and Crystal Maze is now available in Putney, but only until December.

‘The Case of Dynamo Diamonds’ is channelled towards friends, family or work colleagues to solve a crime within a time limit.

People who have taken part in the adventure include TV broadcasters Tim Lovejoy and Emma Freud, from Soccer AM and The Pulse respectively, as well as Coupling and Leverage actress Gina Bellman.

Grub Smith, co-founder of Pop Up Escapes, said: “People who like this sort of thing really like it, and it’s a different type of game. You are not on your phone or your computer, and it goes back to an earlier age where you had to use your brain and work with others.

“It’s very good to watch people working together, and you do see that people have definite personality traits in a pressured situation where you are completing things against the clock.”

The game is believed to have started five years ago in Japan and Hungry, inspired by video games and the Saw film series according to Mr Smith.

Four years ago, there was one Pop Up Escape Room and now there are 35.

He added: “I would not say that it is for unaccompanied children, because it demands a certain amount of intelligence that they may not have yet acquired.

“But we have had lots of lads and dads, and visits from families because it is a different experience in Putney, and they do it as a family.”

Asked about who it is geared towards, he said: “It is not just for kids, or just for adults, it’s anyone who likes a challenging hour of solving a mystery. It’s not an escape game where you are locked in a room, a prison, or an Egyptian tomb.

“There’s quite a lot of mystery solving, crime solving, finger prints and forensics, stuff like that.”

The game is based in a private room in The Dynamo, a pizza and café restaurant in Putney Bridge Road.

Tickets are £15pp and the maximum size of a team is five.
