Sutton MMA fighter Nathaniel Wood defended his bantamweight Cage Warriors world title at the weekend with a quick and destructive win over Josh Reed.

The 24-year-old told Sutton Guardian in August: “I think I’m going to TKO him in the first round. That’s what I’ve envisage.”

His forecast was accurate as he pummelled his opponent with unanswered punches to the body and head before the referee waved away the bout as Reed was falling to the canvas in round one.

The O2 arena on Saturday, September 16, hosted the Cage Warriors event.

Wood now has a professional record of 11 wins and three defeats and he hopes a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is next.

He said before the bout: “I feel if I go in there and put on a good performance then how can they (UFC) not sign me? If I beat him in good fashion, like the way I finished my last three opponents, then I don’t need to do much more.

“The UFC is the biggest platform and I want to represent my country on the highest stage I can. Of course I would start earning more money which would help in a big way.”

Wood - who trains from Raptures Martial Arts School in Sutton and Titan Mixed Martial Arts Academy in North London - has already made history this year by becoming the first ever Cage Warriors world champion from London.
