A family in Welling have spoken out about the construction of a new supermarket they think is too close to their flat.

Carole Jones, of Edmund Road, said she feels like she doesn't want to be home because of the construction of a new Lidl directly next door to her flat.

She said: "They are noisy and [the building looks directly] into my property. I'm not the only one, the neighbours above and below feel the same."

Carole's daughter, Kelly Banard, said: "They are so close to the kitchen, it feels almost claustrophobic. The issue is the loss of natural light, the supermarket looks like it is going to be bigger than our block of flats."

The family said there is excessive noise from the builders and that they have contacted Lidl directly about their issues.

Carole said the construction is so close that at one point cement came over into their private car park and splattered onto cars.

A spokesman for Lidl said they are only aware of one individual complaint.

The spokesman said: "We would like to apologise for any disruption experienced by residents during construction, and would like to reassure the local community that we are taking every possible step to minimise the impact of the work being carried out.

"We have been in ongoing contact with our neighbours to discuss the programme of work and are only aware of an individual complaint, which we are working to resolve.

"We will continue to proactively engage with our neighbours and comply with the hours of work permitted within our planning consent, and would like to take the opportunity to thank the local community for their patience and understanding during this phase of development. Should anyone wish to discuss concerns with us directly we would urge them to get in touch via londonnorthwest.property@lidl.co.uk."
