A cladding system that is fitted onto a Sutton high rise has passed the latest fire safety test carried out by the British Research Establishment (BRE).

The testing on the cladding installed on Chaucer House in Chaucer Gardens is part of a Government programme to obtain greater understanding of how these systems behave in a fire.

This latest assessment, which was announced by Sutton Housing Partnership as passing on August 15, was the fourth completed test.

A statement read: “Sutton Housing Partnership (SHP) is working closely with Sutton Council and the London Fire Brigade to ensure fire safety in homes and blocks remains a priority for everyone.

“An independent review of fire safety put in place following the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower, has confirmed refurbishment works and the installation of cladding systems to both blocks at Chaucer House and Balaam House was carried out to a good standard. The review also found that maintenance and management of both blocks following major works was good.”

Sutton Housing Partnership has ordered an additional cladding system test to check the design and materials used in the previous assessments. Engineers will be present undertaking such inspections over the next number of weeks.

Cllr Jayne McCoy, Chair of the Housing, Economy and Business Committee at Sutton Council, said: “We are pleased the cladding on Chaucer House has passed this latest test. I hope this good news reassures residents that their homes we work so hard to keep safe have been maintained to a high standard.

“We still want to complete our own tests to make sure absolutely everything is as it should be and we will share further details of these final tests with residents once we have them.”

Since the Grenfell tragedy, SHP say that the London Fire Brigade is holding regular fire safety visits and Fire Safety Patrols are present in the blocks between 5pm and 8am seven days a week.

Free fire blankets are also available on request.

Landlords Sutton Housing Partnership are currently involved in additional fire protection measures due to be completed this month.

In June it was reported that Chaucer House had failed a fire safety test after a joint statement was released from Sutton Council, Sutton Housing Partnership and London Fire Brigade.
