A murder investigation has been launched after a man who was stabbed in Eltham died in hospital.

Police were called at 6.55pm on August 11 to reports of a stabbing at Well Hall Parade.

A neighbour, who lives on nearby Craigton Road, was out in her back garden when she heard screaming.

She said: "I didn't realise what I was listening to. Then suddenly all the neighbours were knocking on my door asking what happened.

"There were quite a few screams to be honest but I didn't think for one minute it was a murder. I thought it was kids mucking about as I live in a quiet neighbourhood."

The 49-year-old victim was found by the London Ambulance Service and taken to a south London hospital but died yesterday evening, August 14.

An employee at Well Hall Express dry cleaners said that the victim was found right outside their shop.

A suspect, a 38-year-old man, was tasered at the scene by police and taken to hospital as a precaution.

He has subsequently been released from hospital and arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police are looking for a woman who could be a significant witness.

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Piscopo said: "When officers arrived at the scene in Well Hall Parade, witnesses told how a woman said to them that she had been threatened by the suspect.

"This woman is described as black, tall, aged approximately 30 and was wearing a long, floral patterned cardigan.

"We need to trace this woman as she may have vital evidence that could assist this investigation."
