A disabled Orpington woman has been left unable to wash or sleep in her bed for more than three weeks after her in-house lift broke down for the second time.

Faye Hope’s through floor lift stopped working on July 16 leaving her with no option other than to sleep in her wheelchair with no access to her washing facilities upstairs.

The 49-year-old, of Rye Crescent, contacted her affordable housing provider Affinity Sutton, but was told that they could not fix the lift until social services appointed Faye an Occupational Therapist to access the situation.

Bromley council informed her she could not be appointed one until November at the earliest.

Ms Hope said: “I’m very depressed.

“I’ve been sleeping in my chair since July 16.

“I’m getting more and more sores and I can’t get a proper wash.

“It’s a nightmare.

“I went into my GP and he said that everyone is stretched at the moment and I should get some counselling but what good is counselling going to do for me?

“It’s ridiculous. There’s nowhere to turn.”

Faye was left in the same situation last November when her lift broke down for the first time.

A council spokesperson said: “We take the principles of confidentiality of specific residents very seriously indeed and will not therefore be releasing personal information about this matter.

“There are often specific circumstances and factors which need to be carefully considered and in circumstances like these, we would be in contact with the resident, offering support and advice and if an assessment is needed, this would be provided in timescales which we would outline to the individual directly.”

A spokesperson for Affinity Sutton informed the News Shopper the situation was out of their hands.
