A new bar is opening in Deptford this September.

The Gin and Beer bar will be based in a railway arch in Resolution Way near Deptford station.

The venture is run by husband and wife team Steve Wheeler, 33, and Gemma Wheeler, 33.

The couple are collecting the keys to their new premises on Resolution Way, Deptford, tomorrow and are aiming to open the bar sometime in September.

The bar will be a café style cocktail bar with table service, and will only sell Gin & Tonics, original bespoke craft gin cocktails and beers from Belgium.

Mr Wheeler, who is the director of the company, said: “We are so proud and excited to be finally realising our dream of opening a bar that allows us to share our lives’ passion with the people of London (Lewisham).

“It’s been a long and difficult road to get us to this point but now we can see our business taking shape and we can’t wait to get behind that bar and serve the people some amazing drinks.”

The bar will stock 100 gins with a core range of 40 including Martin Millers, Gin Mare, Cotswolds and Monkey 47.

They will also sell London gins such as Butlers, Little Bird, Sacred and some Kent gins such as Anno & Dockyard.

Their beers will be from old Trappist breweries such as Orval, Achel and Rochefort and the newer Belgian craft breweries such as De La Senne, Brussels Beer Project and Dochter Van De Korenaar.

Gin and Beer Ltd is the couples’ first venture. They have worked on their idea for two years and tested it by running a pilot bar in their garden.

Mr and Mrs Wheeler are originally from Kent but decided to start their business in Lewisham because of the borough’s hip status. They plan to recruit from the area.

Mr Wheeler said that he has been amazed at how good Deptford’s bar scene is. He also praised the warm welcome given to him and his wife by other Deptford bars.

Gin is becoming big business in Lewisham with a new gin festival is taking place on the 7th and 8th of October in Catford.
