A GROUP of amateur golfers came together last week to raise more than £12,000 for a local charity.

The players, sorted into 17 teams, completed a round on the famous championship high course at Moor Park Mansion in aid of Harrow-based St Luke’s Hospice.

Prizes were awarded to the top three teams as fierce but friendly competition ran throughout the day.

The participants were then treated to a slap-up three-course meal and live entertainment.

Lord Peter Saunders said: “Thank you to everyone involved in a most fantastic golf day.

“The golf, food, weather and all round service were, for want of a better word, perfect and I want to thank St Luke’s for organising a wonderful event.”

Aneka Shah, who organised the day, praised the sponsors, venue and dedicated team of volunteers who ensured that things ran smoothly.

She explained how the funds would be used, and noted how events like these are vital in enabling the hospice to carry out its work.

She said: “£12,000 is a magnificent amount raised for the hospice as it could fund almost a month’s stay for a patient in our In Patient Unit, providing the patient with 24-hour nursing and medical care support.”
