Two men have been jailed for their role in a “violent” moped-enabled robbery that left a man seriously injured.

John Tusting, 32 of Wellmeadow Road, and Lucian Riviere, 18 of Brockley Mews, were both found guilty of robbery at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, May 19.

On Monday, July 24, Tusting was sentenced to 12 years in prison - reduced to 10 - with an extended licence of three years.

Riviere was jailed for eight years.

When released from prison, they will both be banned from driving for two years.

PC Greg Herriott, from Greenwich Borough, said: "These two men were involved in a violent robbery which resulted in the innocent owner of a Vespa being stabbed.

"We remain committed to cracking down on 'moped-enabled' crime and the theft of scooters.

"Today's sentencing also shows how seriously the courts of taking these matters.

"Our enquiries into this robbery continue and I would urge anyone with information to contact us."

At around 5:50pm on October 1, 2015, the 52-year-old victim was riding on Well Hall Road, towards Woolwich, when he was approached by suspects who were riding mopeds.

The suspects kicked out at his scooter, causing him to stop on Westmount Road.

One of the pillion passengers pulled out a large kitchen knife and stabbed him in the chest. While the victim tended to his wounds, the suspects rode off with his scooter.

The victim was treated at the scene by crew from London's Air Ambulance before being taken to a south London hospital for treatment.

Officers carried out extensive enquiries including reviewing local CCTV cameras.

On October 5, 2015, Riviere was arrested in the Eltham area after he was seen with a moped and a grey crash helmet which matched footage of the robbery.

Three days later, officers arrested Tusting at his home address.

The men both denied any involvement in the crime but were charged with robbery and causing grievous bodily harm on April 26 2016

The two men were found not guilty of causing grievous bodily harm.
