Eight Romanian men have been found living in the basement of a New Cross house.

Officers said the men were being charged "hundreds of pounds a month" to live in "very cramped conditions".

Licensing Officers from Lewisham Council obtained a warrant to enter the property as part of a crackdown on rogue landlords in the borough.

They entered the house at about 6am today (July 21) and also found several other men living in small rooms.

Lewisham Council said the investigation is ongoing.
