A nine-year-old girl from Sutton has been chosen to perform in the National Youth Ballet after her dance teacher recommended for her to attend auditions in London.

Daisy Smith started ballet when she was two years old when she was driven every Saturday to classes in Herne Hill by her mum Pricilla and dad Daniel.

Priscilla Smith, Daisy’s mum, told Sutton Guardian: "We are very proud of Daisy's achievement and can't wait to see her perform at Sadlers Wells theatre in September.”

She said that Daisy has always had an interest in ballet but it became even more apparent when she joined the Karen Forbes School of Dance in Wimbledon.

“Daisy and her dance teacher Karen Forbes have put in a lot of effort and commitment over the years and we are all delighted that this hard work has paid off.

“It will be a fantastic experience for Daisy, not only performing but also the two week intensive training programme up in Birmingham over the summer in order to prepare for the performance," her mum said.

The National Youth Ballet is made up of the best ballet dancers across the country.

Time in Motion, the 2017 season of the National Youth Ballet, will be performed at the Crescent Theatre in Birmingham on August 25 and August 26.

A Gala show will be held on September 3 at Sadler's Wells in London where Daisy will be involved.

The National Youth Ballet is celebrating its 30th anniversary with their Time in Motion production being showcased by dancers aged between eight and 18.

Daisy, who will be involved in the Time in Motion spectacle, was also picked for a show at the Epsom Playhouse with the Surrey Youth Ballet last year.
