Firefighters rescued an over-excited dog that got wedged in a wall because it had ‘put on a few pounds’ according to its owner.
Snoopy, a ten-year-old Springer Spaniel, got caught between a gate and a fence in Longlands Recreation Ground in Sidcup.
Jenny Forsythe, Snoopy’s owner, said he always gets excited when he gets to the park.
She said: “I was with my daughter Eloise and he just raced ahead along the pathway like he always does with his tail waggling.
“There is a bit by the gate that he jumps through but this time I don’t know what happened – he either mistimed the jump or he has put on a few pounds.”
Snoopy got wedged in a gap by the fence and a passer-by rang for the fire brigade.
Jenny said: “Five big firemen came and tried to get him out. In the end they had to use chisels, I suppose they are more used to cats stuck in trees.
“When Snoopy was free he tried to play it cool like nothing had happened.”
Jenny, and husband Keith, from Sidcup, both commended the fire service for their professionalism and quick reactions to keep Snoopy calm.
A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said they were called to Longlands Park just after 7pm on July 12 to a call of a dog stuck between a wall and a post.
The spokesman advised anyone who has a similar situation to ensure they contact the RSPCA in the first instance.
