Bromley schoolgirl Gina Li Donni is ‘really happy and excited’ about reaching the semi-finals of The Voice Kids this weekend.

The 13-year-old, from Bishop Justus School, spoke to News Shopper after impressing judge Will.i.am in The Battles when she competed against two other contestants to go through.

“It was really unbelievable,” she said.

“To be honest, I didn’t think that I was going to go through at that point because they [Francesca and Adam] were such nice people.

“I was just beyond happy and could not believe it.”

When asked about how she felt about going up against them, during both rehearsals and on stage, Gina said: “I felt quite intimidated at first because they were so good.

“But when we were in rehearsals there was really good energy and everyone was positive.

“I think if either of them went through then I would have been happy, but it wasn’t tense when we were rehearsing and performing because it was just fun and nice.”

She also talked about singing As, by the late George Michael and Mary J Blige, in front of a packed audience and said: “I was just ready to have a good time.

“I thought that, if this was the last time that I was going to sing on stage then I want to have the best time and, you know, enjoy it.”

Gina added: “This whole thing has given me such confidence anyway, it would be truly incredible.”

Gina said she was ‘shocked’ by the level of support she has had from family and friends, but remains thankful.

“To have that from people I don’t even know is crazy and I want to make sure that I give it back to people.

“My two sisters and my little brother have been so happy about the whole thing and they love saying that their sister is on Team Will.i.am.

“My mum has been more nervous about the rounds than me and putting up posters everywhere, she is more excited than I am,” she added.

Regardless of what happens, the schoolgirl wants to pursue singing as a career, using the series as a platform for future success.

“Either way, I am really excited and I am just so happy because whole thing has been a dream.”

She is now one of 11 singers that will be vying for a place in the final this weekend.

You can watch The Voice Kids on Saturday, July 15, from 7.30pm on ITV.
