A 74-year-old woman has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car on the corner of London Road and Senhouse Road.

Metropolitan Police confirmed there were called to the scene at 2.56pm yesterday where a woman was hit by a vehicle.

The woman, Maureen White, was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

Maureen's grandson, Harry Burroughs, told Sutton Guardian that his grandmother will need a hip replacement operation today.

Mr Burroughs also said that his grandmother suffered an open fracture to her ankle.

He added: “She also needs a CT scan on her brain because when she was falling she hit her face and is bruised. We think she will be ok. She will need rehab for her to be able to walk again.”

The grandson claimed the woman was walking to his office in North Cheam when a car “hit her over the bonnet”.

Mr Burroughs was told by witnesses that a “young woman” initially stopped and asked the lady ‘is your leg/ankle normally like that’ before reportedly driving away again.

The driver's details are not known at this stage.

The Met have said that the woman was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service and that enquiries are ongoing into the incident.
