Work has begun on two new council houses in Tooting.
The three-bedroom, semi-detached homes are part of the town hall’s Hidden Homes initiative and will be located Nutwell Street.
The Hidden Homes scheme works by transforming empty or derelict areas such as old laundries, store sheds, and garages into new residential properties.
In the decade the initiative has been running, 250 homes have been built.
Executive member for housing Councillor Clare Salier said the council has been building new council homes “for years” and will be adding “hundreds more in the next few years”.
Labour Councillor Peter Carpenter said “while welcome”, the initiative has not delivered enough homes since its inception.
According to the council, there are plans to “build another 300 low cost council homes” in the pipeline.

The two properties, which are being built on former storage sheds, are expected to be completed by contractor HA Marks Construction later in the year.
