Conservative Chris Philp has retained his seat as MP for Croydon South, after he garnered more than 50 per cent of the total vote.
Despite the victory, his grip on the seat closed slightly as Labour’s Jennifer Braitwaite picked up 35.8 per cent of the vote, up 11 per cent from 2015 in which Emily Benn was the Labour candidate.
Philp’s overall numbers hardly changed from last time around, losing the support of just 114 votes.
73.3% of the Croydon South turned out to vote compared to the 70.4 per cent in 2015. This was also the largest percentage who turned out to vote in Croydon South since the 1997 General Election.
