Police were called to a disturbance in Weimar Street at around 8.20pm on June 1.
A spokesperson for Wandsworth police said: “At this stage it appears that a male on a moped was seen looking into a vehicle on Weimar Street.
“He was challenged by a member of the public, possibly the owner of the vehicle, and a scuffle broke out.
“Both parties had left by the time police arrived, and enquiries are ongoing to trace them both.”
The incident follows a spate of moped thefts in Wandsworth borough.
In the video, which emerged on Twitter, two men are seen kicking a man on the ground, while one holds a hammer shouting “you tried to attack me with this”.
