South Croydon school Cumnor House has hired a new headmaster with a history of success.

Daniel Cummings will join the boys’ school in September having taught in both the state and independent school sector in England as well as a stint in Australia.

The sport-loving headteacher guided his last school into The Sunday Times Top 100 UK Prep Schools – entering the chart at number 10 of the London schools.

The father-of-two hoped to improve on what he described as a school with an already envious track-record.

“Cumnor already has an excellent reputation for providing top class education and academic success,” he said.

“The sports and the arts are well established with a strong history of success. These coupled with the outstanding facilities and an experienced professional staff body give Cumnor every ingredient to continue to be an exceptional school for the future.”

He succeeds Floyd Steadman in the position, who has bid farewell to the independent school because of personal circumstances.

“Daniel has an accomplished record of delivering exceptional academic and pastoral outcomes,” Mr Steadman said.

“He is very familiar with independent school education and the London school system, and has close links to the schools that Cumnor House transfers to at 11+ and 13+.

“His high expectations for the children in his duty of care to achieve the highest educational outcomes and best destination school closely match those of Cumnor House.”
