Millwall fan has reportedly been injured when he tried to protect others from three knife-wielding terrorists during the attacks at London Bridge.

Brave Lions supporter Roy Larner "charged" at the terrorists to try and help others escape but was stabbed five times during the carnage on Saturday evening.

It has been reported he ran towards the attackers and shouted “f*** you, I’m Millwall”.

Seven people were killed and another 48 injured in attacks at London Bridge and Borough Market after terrorists drove a white van into pedestrians crossing the bridge just before 10.10pm.

The suspects got out of the vehicle at Borough Market and stabbed a number of people, including an on-duty British Transport Police officer.

Armed police officers confronted and shot the three suspects – who were wearing fake explosive vests – within eight minutes of the first call.

Friends have set up an online fundraising page to help Mr Larner through his recovery and a petition calling for him to be awarded the George Cross for his bravery.

A post written on the petition website said: "Roy Larner charged at the terrorists on London Bridge in order to try and stop them and help others escape, he ended up getting himself stabbed multiple times showing great courage and preparing his body for the ultimate self-sacrifice to help others, he should be acknowledged and rewarded for he's actions."

The JustGiving page broke the original target of £500 within hours and more than £10,000 has been raised so far.

Simon Willoughby shared the fundraiser on Facebook yesterday and wrote: "This man's name is Roy Larner a friend of mine for the past 20 odd years.

"Yesterday when the terrorist attacked he went an stuck it to them and save a person’s life, but in doing so got stabbed five times in the head, neck, back, front and cut all his fingers and at present is in intensive care. Legend.

"Please share this as much as possible as this is what we should be reading about not them muggy delusional fanatics."

A spokesman for the Lions said: "Millwall Football Club wishes to commend Roy Larner for his immense bravery in incredibly terrifying circumstances and indeed all other members of the public whose actions helped to save others.

“That praise is extended to our remarkable emergency services, who proved yet again what an asset they are in protecting the public against these heinous acts.

"Millwall stands together with all other football clubs and organisations in offering its absolute support to those in need following the tragic events of last Saturday night."

Lewisham Council shared a photo of the Union Flag at half-mast on Monday morning as a mark of respect.

In a statement they said: “Our thoughts are with the victims of the terror attack in London Bridge last night

“We are grateful to our emergency services for responding so swiftly last night & supporting people who were affected.

“Please remain vigilant. Report anything that you think is suspicious to the police by dialling 999.

“Lewisham's communities are strong. We won't allow this attack to divide us.”
