An Indian restaurant in Belvedere has been forced to shut temporarily after a 'racist' attack left the front of the shop “demolished.”

Spice Master in Nuxley Road had its windows smashed in with a huge rock whilst vandals reportedly shouted racist language towards staff.

The offence happened at about 1am on Sunday, May 21 and the restaurant manager has said it has been closed since.

Mohammed Rahman, Spice Master’s manager, said: “It was just after we closed. We were locking up and there was a man. He seemed a bit drunk so I called him a cab and tried to put him in it.

“But out of nowhere he came back about 20 minutes later with about 15 people. He was effing’ and blinding and calling us racist names.

“They just absolutely trashed the place. Six or seven windows have been demolished.”

Mr Rahman, 27, said he thinks there has been about £10,000 worth of damage done.

This was the first time anything like this has happened to the restaurant.

He said: “It was shocking, it was like something you’d see in a film. You never expect it to happen to you.

“The community support has been amazing, I cannot fault that.”

The attack reportedly lasted for about 20 minutes.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said enquiries were ongoing.

The spokesman said: “At this stage it is believed that the men damaged the restaurant window and a wooden gate while using racial language. No one was injured in the incident. No arrests at this time.”

Mr Rahman added: “It is just shocking. My neighbour’s car got done, our windows smashed.

"I hope we are open again as soon as possible so we can move past this.”
