Wimbledon residents experienced road closures and power cuts this afternoon after an underground cable fire caused smoke to pour out of a manhole cover.
A spokesman for Merton police said officers were flagged down after members of the public saw smoke coming out of a manhole cover in Mansel Road.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) were called to the small fire at 12.45pm, and had it under control by 1.10pm.
Mansel Road is still closed both ways between A219 Wimbledon Hill Road / Woodside Road and Raymond Road, including by Wimbledon High School.
Power cuts are being experienced in the local area and police remain on the scene.
