LET it not be said that Michel Gondry is a dull man. Written and directed by the Frenchman, The Science of Sleep is an exercise to keep on top of.
Gael Garcia Bernal is Stephane Miroux, a young man so transfixed by his dreams that reality regularly fuses with his unconcious state, often played out in a cardboard television studio which occupies his head.
He moves next door to an English girl with whom he becomes transfixed, generally making a nuisance of himself.
The Science of Sleep is an interesting project screaming out for direction. It's a surreal collection of ideas forced to work with a story that's not up to the task, and it doesn't help that Stephane is wholly unlikeable.
