A Kingston carer has pleaded for people to help secure a “desperately needed” renovation to the home of a special needs child in Greenwich.

Amy Wales, who is a child nursing student at Kingston University, helps care for 4-year-old Maximilian Chai, who has suffered from a number of respiratory, sleeping, development and immunodeficiency problems since birth.

Max’s family have been fundraising to transform their home so that it is wheelchair accessible and can meet Max’s complex needs, but have so far failed to do so.

It is now hoped that BBC home improvement show DIY SOS can come to the rescue of the family, with 150 applications needed to be considered for the programme.

Ms Wales said: “The family had to move to a house that is able to be adapted for his extensive needs which has exhausted their finances leaving them unable to now do the adaptation they so desperately need.”

Ms Wales is giving talks across Kingston University encouraging students to help the family apply for the show.
