Two runners completed the last leg of a 500-kilometre dash tracing the London Underground this weekend, in an attempt to raise money for rhinos in their native South Africa.
Duncan Deane from Sonning Gardens, Hampton and Jonathan Kershaw from Newry Road, St Margarets, arrived at Canary Wharf on Saturday, having run 22 kilometres (13.6 miles).
The South Africans set themselves the target of running 500 kilometres (310 miles) through the tube network, from station to station, above ground, line by line, in January 2016.
They gave themselves until the end of the year to complete it, and collected more than £867 in donations for 12 Hours, a charity based in their native South Africa that campaigns to end rhino poaching.

On their fundraising page, the pair state why they chose to donate to the charity: “Each of the five species of rhino are either endangered or close to being extinct due to poaching, habitat loss, or political conflict.
“Poaching has risen drastically in Africa. This is mainly due to the value of rhino horn in Asian countries such as China and Vietnam where it is used for traditional medicines, sexual stimulants, hangover cures and many other uses.”
