Armed police have spent a second night surrounding the home of a man described as possessing "hazardous items".

Officers arrived at the Wood End Lane property shortly before 1am on Friday after receiving a report of concerns for the occupant and hazardous items, including large quantities of petrol and combustible material, inside the home.

Around 80 residents living nearby have been evacuated as a precaution.

It is believed that a lone male is inside and, whilst it is not known for certain what hazardous items he has, police are “treating seriously” reports that the items could be dangerous and that attempts have been made by the man to prevent access to the address.

It has also been suggested that the man owns several large, potentially dangerous dogs, compounding the police's cautious approach.

Police cordons have been set up in a 200 metre radius around the property to facilitate the ongoing police operation.

There is no suggestion that this incident is terrorist related, nor is it linked to any other ongoing investigation or operation.

Recent reports state Wood End Lane and Whitton Avenue West remain closed.

Police thanked those local residents directly affected for their cooperation and patience. Local officers are on duty around the area of Wood End Lane to talk to the local community and address any concerns that they may have.
