Greenwich has been ranked the unhappiest borough in London, according to newly released statistics.

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show the results of a survey where Londoners were asked to rank their happiness in four categories.

Respondents answered questions by researchers which were used to measure aggregate levels of life satisfaction, happiness, anxiety and feeling worthwhile.

Out of the 32 London boroughs, Lewisham ranked lowest in the question of general life satisfaction, followed closely by Greenwich.

Lewisham and Greenwich residents were also among the least likely in the capital to think their lives were worthwhile.

The survey showed that Greenwich residents are the least happy and the second most anxious Londoners, with only Sutton coming in with a higher anxiety ranking.

The data provides a half-decade picture of Britain's changing wellbeing levels for the first time.

The figures show those living in rural areas feel most satisfied with life while those in London report the highest levels of anxiety.

A large sample of UK adults aged over 16 answered the ONS annual population survey and were asked questions, rating their answers on a scale between zero ("not at all") and 10 ("completely").
