An investigation has been launched into the death of a man who died from a strike to the head after leaning out of a train window near Wandsworth Common.
The government's Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) are looking into the circumstances of the death which occurred at around 5:25pm on Sunday, August 7.
Simon Brown, who was known to be a train enthusiast, was travelling between Gatwick Airport and London Victoria when he sustained fatal injuries after striking his head on a signal gantry.
The Gatwick Express service was travelling at around 60mph.
The train's droplight windows are intended for the use by the train’s guard and have warning notices directly above them.
The investigation aims to look at "the factors which affected the clearance between the train and the signal gantry" and "the measures in place to control the risks from leaning out of train windows".
The RAIB will release their findings when the investigation is complete.
